Self-service - QSAR connection check
Find out in one minute why you can — or cannot — reach your QSAR workstation.
What is this page?
This portal checks the connection between your computer and your QSAR workstation at 4chems. It looks at the same things our support team would check first — so you get an answer right away, without writing an email.
How does it work?
- You sign in with your 4chems account (the same one you use for your QSAR workstation).
- We look at the network address your computer is using right now.
- We compare it with the access list of the QSAR firewall and test the connection to your workstation from our side.
- You see a clear result for every step — green means fine, red tells you what to do next (usually: switch on your company VPN).
What happens when I click Login?
You go to the 4chems sign-in page (iam.4chems.com). After signing in you land directly on your personal connection check — it runs automatically. Nothing is installed and nothing is changed on your computer; the check only reads.
If the check finds a problem: the portal shows step-by-step guides (Windows, macOS, home office) and gives you a reference number you can share with support or a colleague.
Common questions
I cannot connect to my QSAR workstation — what should I check first?
Sign in and run the connection check first — it looks at your network address, the firewall allowlist, and your workstation, and tells you exactly which one is blocking you. Run the check.
Remote Desktop says it cannot connect to the remote computer. Why?
This is almost always a network-address or firewall-allowlist problem, not a fault on the workstation itself. See common connection errors.
Do I need a VPN to reach my QSAR workstation?
Yes — when you are outside the office, connect through your own company VPN first; there is no 4chems VPN. Read the working-from-home guide.
Why does it work in the office but not from home?
Access is tied to your office's egress IP address, which only your company VPN reproduces when you are off-site. Read the working-from-home guide.
My login works but the portal says access denied.
Your 4chems account needs the QSAR customer role before it can use this portal; contact 4chems support to have it added. Call 4chems support.
Ready to check your connection?
It takes about a minute. You only need your 4chems account.
